Artist Frank Jackson and curator Sarah Freeman discuss There/There, an exhibit of Jackson’s abstract landscape paintings. Using the medium of fresco, Jackson applies an intonaco (a thin, final layer of lime) to a burlap cloth substrate and then works within the durational constraint of this fast-drying material. Jackson is interested in exploring how abstract representations of landscape can be understood as sites of memory, experience, and potentiality.
